Alien: Covenant keeps casting great actors

Stars of You’re Next, Selma and Empire join Prometheus sequel

It looks like Ridley Scott’s Prometheus sequel Alien: Covenant is really getting going now, as another batch of new castmembers ahve joined Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride and Demian Bichir.

Deadline reports that the new names are Jussie Smollett, Amy Seimetz, Carmen Ejogo and Callie Hernandez, which makes this a mightily impressive cast.

We’re huge fans of Seimetz from her stunning performances in excellent indie genre films like A Horrible Way To Die, Upstream Colour and You’re Next, while Smollett is currently starring on the fiendishly addictive TV show Empire as Jamal Lyon.

Carmen Ejogo in Selma

Ejogo is very much in demand at the moment, having been brilliant in Selma as Coretta Scott King, and she’s also starring in Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them (also starring Waterston). Hernandez has a slightly shorter resume, but is a favourite of Robert Rodriguez, having appeared in Machete Kills, Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, and From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series.

We’re loving the cast that Scott is putting together, a collection of rising stars and indie excellence (we’re still giggling about Bichir’s line reading of “Bob” in The Hateful Eight and Waterston has been brilliant in everything from Inherent Vice to Queen Of Earth), and despite our Prometheus grumbles, it’s getting hard not to get excited about this.

Still no clear word on whether or not Noomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw will return though…we’ve got our money on a cameo. And will Michael Fassbender’s David just be a head? These are just two of many questions.

“Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.”

Alien: Covenant will be released on 6 October 2017. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
