Get a good look at the cast of Alien: Covenant and assume James Franco goes early

As Alien: Covenant creeps closer to its 19 May release date, Fox has unveiled a new look at the crew that will be facing the promised avalanche of creatures old and new.

It confirms beyond a shadow of a doubt that the consistently prolific James Franco will indeed be starring in the film (unless he was just there hanging out, he does look pretty comfortable), and it’s a good look at the pretty large cast.

The question is, are the less starry names purely cannon fodder, or are we looking at some shocking early exits for those familiar faces? We are looking at you, Billy Crudup, and we are looking particularly hard at you, Franco.

The picture is also titled Last Supper, just to hammer home the fact that this group is in for a terrible time.

Alien: Covenant stars Michaael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, Demian Bichir, Billy Crudup, Carmen Ejogo, Jussie Smollett, Amy Seimetz, Callie Hernandez and Alexander England, and possibly Guy Pearce and Noomi Rapace, depending on which rumours you believe.

It’s definitely a hugely impressive ensemble, and we are really hoping that the script (by Michael Green, John Logan and Jack Paglen) gives them more to work with than Prometheus. We want an Alien/Aliens-level of quality characterisation.

“Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.”

Alien: Covenant will be released on 19 May. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
