Agents Of SHIELD Season 3 recruits Avengers actor

Is one of the Avengers Assemble cast returning for Agents Of SHIELD?

With Agents Of SHIELD Season 3 underway, the stakes are being ratcheted up more and more. However, another adversary has been added to the cast in the form of Sin City and Nashville actor Powers Boothe, who will play Gideon Malick, “a notorious man whose loyalties remain a mystery”, according to Marvel.com.

Interestingly, Boothe was in Avengers Assemble (albeit with his face heavily obscured), where he played an unnamed World Council member, last seen giving Nick Fury a hard time (he wasn’t one of the unfortunates to have a hole burned through his chest in Captain America: The Winter Soldier). We doubt he’ll be playing the same character, but it’s a nice little nod nonetheless.

Speaking of the casting, Agents Of SHIELD‘s Executive Producer/Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb said, “Gideon is incredibly menacing, and in him we have a character that even the stone-cold Grant Ward would fear… Only someone of Powers’ calibre could deliver the type of ominous and powerful performance we needed.

Agents Of SHIELD: Season 3 is airing on ABC in the US, with a UK air date to follow. Check out the comics that inspired the TV seies in the 100 All-Time Greatest Comics bookazine now.
