Veteran character actor Bill Paxton (Aliens, Near Dark, Big Love) will be joining Marvel’s Agents Of SHIELD for at least four episodes.
The True Lies star will be playing Agent John Garrett, a character created by Frank Miller and Bill Sienkiewicz, now an old colleague of Phil Coulson’s, according to TV Guide.
Showrunner Jed Whedon told the site that Paxton can be expected to inject some of his trademark swagger to the show. “We wanted to bring in a rough-and-tumble former cohort of Agent Coulson with a little bit of attitude and cigar-smoking swagger.”
“When Garrett got his promotion to Level 7, he refused to sit behind a desk and doesn’t like the formalities of S.H.I.E.L.D. He’s going to help Coulson solve some mysteries and is not afraid to rig an explosive or two.”
Fellow showrunner Maurissa Tanchareon says that Garrett “comes into the fold in a very surprising way. He is the type who wants to stay out in the field no matter how high-level he gets.”
Agents of SHIELD returns to Channel 4 in March. You can buy Aliens on Blu-ray for £8.68 at Amazon.co.uk.
