We’re keeping close tabs on Adam Wingard’s remake of brilliant Japanese anime series Death Note as we really, really want it to be good, and now its found its female lead.
Deadline reports that The Leftovers star Margaret Qualley has signed on to star alongside Nat Wolff in the Americanised version of Death Note. Beyond “female lead” there aren’t any details about who she’ll be playing.
“The story follows a student who, after discovering a supernatural notebook that allows him to kill anyone by writing the victim’s name, attempts to cleanse the world of evil by using the book.”
Qualley has really impressed with her work as Jill Garvey on The Leftovers (the daughter of Justin Theroux’s character) and it’s great to see her cast in a movie this exciting. She’ll also star alongside Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling in Shane Black’s The Nice Guys. Interestingly enough, Black worked on Death Note for a time and was set to direct a while ago before dropping out.
