A Supergirl/The Flash musical is on the way!

The casts of The Flash and Supergirl will reunite in a musical two-parter

Yes, you read correctly. While we knew that The Flash and Supergirl would cross over againa at some point, we didn’t know what form it would take. Now, we have the answer: musical.

That’s right: heading your way is a musical two-parter that will see the cast of the two shows reunite in the latter half of the two shows’ seasons for what is sure to be nothing less than spectacular viewing.

When you remember who the actors involved are, it makes perfect sense. Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist are both great singers, with Supergirl executive producer Ali Adler, who worked on the pair on Glee, saying at The CW’s TCA tour: “When they’re not acting or flying or punching or exploding things, they’re singing.”

Of the rest of the cast, Jesse L Martin (Joe West), John Barrowman (Malcolm Merlyn) and Jeremy Jordan (Winn Schott) are both decent singers – although sadly it doesn’t look like Danielle Panabaker will follow suit…

Shame.

In any case, considering the cast’s impressive singing credentials it was only a matter of time. We can’t imagine what actual reason there is for a musical to exist (Greg Berlanti pointed to it being led by a villain, saying, “My sense is we’ll be very careful about how it is they kind of break into song and there will probably be an element of being in some character’s head at the time”), but we’re glad it’s happening all the same time.

It’s got a lot to do if it wants to live up to Buffy The Vampire Slayer‘s ‘Once More With Feeling’ (which is still brilliant), but we’re excited all the same.

Supergirl and The Flash will both return to Sky1 later in 2016. You can download The 25 Greatest DC Comics Ever digital edition from GreatDigitalMags.com now. For all the latest movie news, pick up the new issue of SciFiNow.
