Marvel’s Agent Carter TV series is in development

Peggy Atwell’s Agent Carter could be looking at an Agents Of SHIELD prequel series on ABC

Definitely one of the stand-out supporting characters of Marvel Phase 1, and largely the series’ only non-exploitative fantasy ass-kicker (Black Widow) or vanilla love interest (Jane Foster, Pepper Potts), Captain America: The First Avenger‘s Agent Peggy Carter could be getting a TV series on ABC.

Played by Hayley Atwell in the movie and the Marvel-One Shot that came with the Iron Man 3 Blu-ray, Margaret “Peggy” Carter was a British officer with the OSS/SOE-like SSR – the Strategic Scientific Reserve – which after the war became SHIELD.

Deadline reports that the the series is in the very early stages of development, and it’s unconfirmed whether Atwell will return to the role.

Agents Of SHIELD also started life as a Marvel One-Shot – Item 47 – and given the role SHIELD or its predecessor play in the proposed show, it would be a missed oppourtunity not to use it as a prequel, setting up characters and concepts that could be revisted in later Marvel movies or TV shows.

Agents Of SHIELD begins 27 September 2013 on Channel 4. You can buy Avengers Assemble on DVD for £10.99 or on Blu-ray for £14.99 from Amazon.co.uk
