Riddick: Rule The Dark star Vin Diesel has been strongly hinting about the outcome of his recent meeting with Marvel Studios, but now he looks to have finally revealed his role and the movie he’s appearing in.

Vin Diesel changed his Facebook profile picture to Groot, the tree-man from James Gunn’s anarchic Guardians Of The Galaxy, before quickly changing it again.

If it’s true and not just another bit of misdirection from the playful star, it’ll be the first time he’s voiced a character in a full-length movie since 1999’s The Iron Giant.

Created by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Dick Ayers, Groot first appeared in Tales To Astonish #13 (November 1960) as an alien invader harvesting humans for experimentation. Following a few cameos, the character was inducted into the modern incarnation of the Guardians Of The Galaxy in the first issue of the 2008 series by writers Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, and artist Paul Pelletier.

Guardians Of The Galaxy is due in cinemas 1 August 2014. Pick up James Gunn’s Super on DVD for £4.49 or Blu-ray for £6.99 from Amazon.co.uk.
