The CW have got a thing for backdoor pilots at the moment – first The Vampire Diaries, then Supernatural, and now – according to Deadline, at least – Arrow.

Deadline reports that Arrow Season 2 will introduce the first major superpowered DC superhero to the show since it began in the form of the Flash – the Fastest Man Alive – before he gains his own show.

Arrow executive producers Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and David Nutter are all reported to be involved in developing the spin-off, and given their reputation for shaking things up we can’t say for certain that this will be classic Flash Barry Allen. But it probably will be.

How the Flash, who can beat the speed of sound by tapping into the extra-dimensional Speed Force – using it to travel through time, whip up cyclones and more – will gel in the same world as the distinctly low-powered Oliver Queen remains to be seen.

Arrow Season 1 will be available to own 23 September 2013, pre-order it on DVD for £21.02 or on Blu-ray for £27.49 from Amazon.co.uk. Season 2 will air on Sky 1 later this year.
