X-Men could spin-off into “5 to 10 golden franchises”

X-Force is just the beginning of 20th Century Fox’s X-Men spin-offs says superhero guru Mark Millar

Speaking to Collider about the ascent of Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow to a role helming 20th Century Fox’s X-Force movie, Kick-Ass comic creator and Fox’s superhero fixer Mark Millar revealed that this is just the beginning.

“It’s so hard because I can’t really say what it is, but it’s building up towards something I’m sort of working on,” said Millar. “I’m talking to some people, bringing in some people.

“Brought in Jeff – I really wanted Jeff after he’d done such an amazing job on Kick-Ass 2. I said to the Fox guys, ‘Look, this guy’s going to blow up. He’s going to become massive after Kick-Ass 2. Get him now because Warner Bros or Sony or somebody’s going to come in with a great offer for him’.

“So he’s been brought in now, you know, and there’s a few other directors I’m talking to as well. They’re aware of that. At the moment though you’ve got to be smart about that. You’ve got to grow it organically,” Millar continued.

“We’re not talking crossovers or anything just yet; the idea is to build it quietly in its own way and bring in the best possible talent… we’re sitting on gold right now. Very vaguely, we are talking about lots of possibilities but I think there’s a good five to ten golden franchises in there.”

With The Wolverine performing well internationally, there’s still room for further solo adventures from Hugh Jackman’s clawed Canuck, while X-Men: Days Of Future Past promises an epic shift of the status quo for the X-Men movie universe – all of which provides a solid foundation for future movies, including that long tortured Deadpool reboot…

Kick-Ass 2 is due in cinemas 14 August 2013. Pick up the first film on Blu-ray for £8 or DVD for £5 from Amazon.co.uk.
