Doctor Who 50th: Harry Potter star to play William Hartnell

Harry Potter’s David Bradley to star in Mark Gatiss’ An Adventure In Time And Space

William Hartnell as the First Doctor in Doctor Who

According to the BBC, Harry Potter‘s David Bradley – who played cantankerous caretaker Argus Filch – has been cast as the First Doctor, William Hartnell in Mark Gatiss’ Doctor Who 50th anniversary drama, An Adventure In Time And Space.

Bradley only recently appeared in Doctor Who itself in the Series 7 episode ‘Dinosaurs On A Spaceship’, and voiced the alien Shansheeth in a 2010 episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures.

“I first heard about this role from Mark while watching the Diamond Jubilee flotilla from the roof of the National Theatre,” said Bradley.

“When he asked if I would interested, I almost bit his hand off! Mark has written such a wonderful script not only about the birth of a cultural phenomenon, but a moment in television’s history.

“William Hartnell was one of the finest character actors of our time, and as a fan I want to make sure that I do him justice. I’m so looking forward to getting started.”

An Adventure In Time And Space will tell the story of the creation of the show in 1963, and Bradley joins Call The Midwife‘s Jessica Raine as producer Verity Lambert, and Scotland‘s Brian Cox will be BBC Head of Drama Sydney Newman.
