Producer/Director Michael Bay has cast relatively unknown actor Jack Reynor for Transformers 4 to star opposite Mark Wahlberg.

Writing on his blog, Bay said, “He is an Irish kid that came to America with 30 bucks in his pocket. Pretty ballsy. Seriously, who does that? Anyway, I spotted him in a great little Irish movie [called] What Richard Did. This kid is the real deal.”

The producer/director also took the opportunity to refute claims that Transformers 4 is a completely clean break from the previous films.

“Transformers 4 is not a reboot,” Bay wrote. “That word has been floating around on the net.

“This movie takes place exactly four years after the war in Chicago. The story makes a very natural transition, and reason as to why we have a whole new cast. This Transformers will feel very different then the last three. We are embarking on a new trilogy.”

Transformers 4 is due in cinemas 27 June 2014. Pick up the first three films on DVD for £10.50 or on Blu-ray for £22.75 from Amazon.co.uk.
