Speaking to The Waikato Times, Doctor Who star Matt Smith enthused about the idea of filming an episode in New Zealand with Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit director Peter Jackson.

”I think it would be an absolutely wonderful place to film Doctor Who,” said Smith. ”I’m told it’s glorious. I’m told it’s quite similar to England.”

”Let’s get Peter Jackson to direct one and go and make it in New Zealand. I would love to, I will campaign endlessly to come over and film there,” he continued. ”There’s clearly a great film industry out there. It’s something I would be very interested in it’s just whether we can persuade the producers to fly us all over.”

Peter Jackson, whose love of the show led him to cast Seventh Doctor Sylvester McCoy in The Hobbit, chipped, “‘I’m a huge Doctor Who fan, and I think Matt’s fantastic. Just name a time and place, and I’ll be there!”

Doctor Who ‘The Power Of Three’ is airing 22 September 2012 on BBC One HD. The first half of Doctor Who Series 7 is released 12 November 2012, and is available to pre-order on DVD, priced £17, and Blu-ray, priced £20.99, from Amazon.co.uk.
