We’re all looking forward to seeing more of the realms of Norse mythology in the forthcoming Thor sequel, titled Thor: The Dark World, but according to stuntman James Grogan, who let a few details slip in an interview with I Review Too, what we’re going to be seeing are… elves!?

“The other day for example, this is quite random but I was working on Thor 2,” said Grogan, “I had a load of stunt guys in and the director came in and he said ‘Look, we want you all to be elves,’ and I was like ‘What the hell is an elf anyway?’ and he said ‘I want you all to walk around like these supernatural animals.’

“Honestly, it was the most ridiculous thing ever, but you just have to not be self aware and get on with it.”

In Norse mythology, the dark elves, Dökkálfar live deep within the earth, and the light elves, Ljósálfar, live in Álfheimr – one of the Nine Worlds, of which we have so far seen Asgard (home of the gods, Thor, Loki, Odi etc), Midgard (earth) and Jotunheim (home of the Frost Giants).

As for which type of elf we’ll be getting, it’s worth noting that in the comic-books Malekith the Accursed, who first appeared in 1984’s Thor issue 344, is the ruler of the dark elves, who in an alliance with Loki took control of the Earth using the Casket Of Ancient Winters to release an endless magical frost over the globe.

How cool would that be?

Find out for sure when Thor: The Dark World hits cinemas 8 November 2013.
