Star Trek Beyond director Justin Lin talks about his Trek history

Justin Lin on why Star Trek Beyond will make you reminisce about TOS

As Star Trek Beyond boldly goes to cinemas this weekend, we sat down with director Justin Lin (Fast & Furious 6) to talk about why he loves Star Trek, and his motivations for the third instalment in the rebooted series.

“I think the essense of the Original Series is what ultimately hooked me into wanting to do this,” says Lin.

Star Trek has been around for 50 years now, and I really felt like it was an opportunity to kind of dissect and reconstruct the philosophies of the characters, and hopefully by doing that we could reaffirm why we love Star Trek, why there’s so much passion. And that could be the contribution of this film to its legacy.”

Star Trek Beyond was written by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung and produced by JJ Abrams, Bryan Burk and Roberto Orci. It stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Simon Pegg, Sofia Boutella and Idris Elba.
