Speaking to TVLine at the Critics Choice Awards, Walter Bishop star John Noble, revealed that Fringe Season 5 will continue in the far future, where Peter, Walter and chums awoke in the Season 4 finale, the game-changing ‘Letters Of Transit’.
“As far as I know, we’re just jumping ahead [to 2036],” said Noble of the move to the Observer-controlled dystopian future, but there’ll be “references” to the past and found footage to explain the changes to the world while the cast slumbered in amber.
“Walter, Olivia, Astrid and Peter are insurgents, so we know all the dirty tricks that have been played against us,” he says of the new dynamic. “We’ll be learning from the past.”
As for what the final series holds for Walter Bishop himself and his epic character arc, Noble hopes that Fringe Season 5 will “tie up the loose ends and emotional connections.
“Walter is the man who started this, so there has to be resolution. There has to be redemption,” Noble continues. “We also have to see the final maturing of the relationship between Peter and Olivia, because it has been so difficult for them and we want them so much to be with each other.”
