Frell yeah! When the sci-fi classic series Farscape was abruptly cancelled after its fourth season (on a massive cliff hanger!), the internet went into overdrive, demanding that the show get the ending it deserves. Series creator Rockne S. O’Bannon and executive producer Brian Henson worked tirelessly for two years to get funding to create a finale and they did just that with the miniseries, Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars.
The miniseries reunited the whole cast and crew of Farscape for a further 182 minutes and tied up all the loose ends left – from a looming war between the alien factions, the Peacekeepers and the Scarrans, to John and Aeryn’s efforts to have a child, to the fate of the rest of the crew resided on the spaceship Moya alongside Crichton and Aery.
Now, to celebrate Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars being released in a new Blu-ray edition, we’re giving two copies away!
For those who don’t know, Farscape is a fusion of live-action, state-of-the-art puppetry, prosthetics and CGI. Edge-of-your-seat thrills, irreverent humour, unforgettable characters and mind-boggling alien lifeforms are brought to life by the creative minds of Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.
It follows astronaut John Crichton (Ben Browder) has spent the last four years lost in a far distant region of the galaxy. He has experienced many fantastic adventures, confronted countless amazing alien species – but nothing he has encountered has prepared him for a galactic war between Scarrans and Peacekeepers that threatens millions of innocent lives. He must put himself directly at the centre of the conflict, and bring these two all-powerful, uncompromising combatants to peace. Somehow.
The show also stars Claudia Black, Anthony Simcoe, Gigi Edgley, Paul Goddard, Lani Tupu, Wayne Pygram, Jonathan Hardy, Tammy MacIntosh, Raelee Hill, Melissa Jaffer, David Franklin, Rebecca Riggs.
Brian Henson directed the show for the first time since Season 1 of the original series, as it was the first time he was allowed back. Farscape was filmed and produced in Australia. Per filming rules in the country, Henson could only direct the first episode, (‘Exodus from Genesis’ which ended up being the third episode of the first season) to establish the tone and look. After that, only Australian directors were hired including Rowan Woods, Andrew Prowse and Ian Watson. As The Peacekeeper Wars was a miniseries, Henson could take back the director’s role and it’s said the show remains an all-time favourite for him.
