The Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series may be about to enter Season 2, but speaking to ComingSoon.com, creator Kevin Tancharoen clearly hasn’t forgotten about his vow to return the fighting game to the big screen.

“We’re still pushing through on that,” said Tancharoen. “The script is in a good place, we’re just kind of figuring out the budget and locations and that whole process is where we’re at.”

Asked how the new film would relate to Legacy, he added, “I think everyone’s intention is to start fresh because we want Legacy to live on its own possibly for multiple seasons, and when it comes to Mortal Kombat, it’s been around for 20-plus years. We’re going to take the mythology and add another layer on it so it can live on for another 20 years, or more!

“I think this is a unique opportunity to set that ground work.”

Mortal Kombat: Legacy II is available from 26 September 2013 on Machinima. Pick up 1995’s Mortal Kombat on DVD for £3.25 or Blu-ray for £5.88 from Amazon.co.uk.
