We’ve had a few food-based quirky horrors in recent years, with 2022’s Fresh and 2022’s The Menu jumping straight to mind. The trailer for Companion starts with a very awkward-looking meal and is definitely giving us the same vibes… and just as little actual information as to what it is actually about.
Check out the trailer here…
Pretty cool right? The only information about the movie’s storyline is: “New Line Cinema—the studio that brought you “The Notebook”—and the unhinged creators of “Barbarian” cordially invite you to experience a new kind of love story…”
Written and directed by Drew Hancock (Suburgatory), Companion stars Sophie Thatcher (The Boogeyman), Jack Quaid (The Boys), Lukas Gage (Smile 2), Megan Suri (It Lives Inside), Harvey Guillén (What We Do in the Shadows) and Rupert Friend (Asteroid City).
The filmmaking team behind the movie also has some impressive horror credits. It’s produced by Raphael Margules, J.D. Lifshitz, Zach Cregger and Roy Lee – the filmmakers behind Barbarian (read our FIVE STAR review of that movie here). The cinematographer is Eli Born (Hellraiser”). The production designer is Scott Kuzio (the Fear Street trilogy) and the editors are Brett W. Bachman (The Fall of the House of Usher) and Josh Ethier (Orphan: First Kill).
Companion will be released in the UK on 10 January 2025 by Warner Bros. Pictures.
