I woke up this morning, only to be struck by the might of my own intrigue – whatever happened to Anakin Skywalker from Episode I: The Phantom Menace? Surely, the actor who portrayed the young Darth Vader – Jake Lloyd – must be an adult, now.
Well, of course he is – but Lloyd has been movie-shy for a few years. Following a belated release of his last movie, 2001’s Madison, which seemed to only see the light of day at all due to the presence of Jim Caviezel (at the time the star of Mel Gibson’s The Passion Of The Christ), Lloyd has been off the movie and TV radar, studying at university and making occasional convention appearances, including the London Film and Comic-Con in 2009.
After the release of The Phantom Menace, Lloyd reprised his role as Anakin Skywalker in several videogames from LucasArts, including Star Wars: Racer Revenge and the not-too-bad Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds.
In an interview with Sc -Fi Channel Australia, Lloyd mentioned how Star Wars has been part of his life for the past ten years – apparently, at high school, the other students ‘wouldn’t let it go’. Well, obviously.
So, Jake Lloyd is still out there somewhere, and, hey, he’s only 21 years old. Who knows where or when he’ll crop up again…
