While I think it’s justified that True Blood got the Emmy nod yesterday for Best Drama, something we discussed this morning on SciFiNow got me thinking about that particular nomination. Best Drama? Really? For a show where one of the characters once spent an entire episode with a crippling erection?
Okay, so True Blood has grown into a more dramatic show over the course of its run, particularly with recent episodes of its third season, but I still think the term ‘drama’ is perhaps misleading. These categories exist for a reason, after all – I find it a little odd that True Blood is competing with shows as tonally straight as Mad Men. Still, the fact that it is so hard to pigeonhole speaks volumes about how diverse and interesting True Blood can be when it’s at its best.
