Supergirl/Flash Musical Casts Its Villain

The musical superhero crossover has found its villain in Batman classic

It all went quite quiet on the Supergirl/Flash crossover musical event after it was announced last year. But now they have revealed their villain.

Although casting is yet to be confirmed, the musical episode will star the Music Meister – a villain from the DC universe that hypnotises people with his high-pitched notes. Voiced by SciFiNow favourite Neil Patrick Harris (Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along BlogA Series Of Unfortunate Events) in Batman: The Brave And The Bold, many are calling out for the broadway star to reprise his role for the live-action shows.

It wouldn’t be the first time this has happened – Vixen‘s Megalyn Echikunwoke starred at the titular role in Arrow (though was recast for Legends Of Tomorrow due to Echikunwoke having other commitments) – so we’d be fairly confident in placing low odds, but we don’t want to get too excited before it is actually confirmed. What we can say is Harris is more than qualified, not only because he’s played him before, but have you heard him sing? He recently took to James Corden’s Late Late Show for a Rift off with the host.

In an interview with TVLine, showrunner Andrew Kriesburg said: “What I always loved about what Joss Whedon would do with [Buffy’s] ‘Hush’ or ‘The Body’ is he’d have these very special episodes, but they were intrinsic to the ongoing storytelling. So when we get to the musical episodes, both Barry and Kara will find themselves at pivotal crossroads on their respective series, and the experience of going through the musical will have a great impact on both series moving forward.”

Honestly, with the success of the Buffy musical episode (‘Once More With Feeling’) we’re surprised more shows haven’t dared to make the venture. But with both leads (Grant Gustin/Melissa Benoist) being Glee alumni, it was only a matter of time really.

The musical will go over two nights, starting in Supergirl and going into The Flash on the Tuesday night, currently rumoured to air in February (in the US). Most cast members have confirmed that they will be (or are up for) singing, apart from Flash‘s Danielle Panabaker who has expressly said she would like to avoid all singing duties this time around, after Caitlin’s drunken karaoke with Barry in Season One.
