JJ Abrams has begun casting for the long-awaited Star Trek 2, with Variety reporting that actress Alice Eve has been (almost) cast to play a character new to the canon.
“Paramount had no comment on the involvement of Eve, who doesn’t yet have a deal in place — but is expected to soon. Benicio del Toro, whose deal is also pending, is Abrams’ choice to play the villain, as Variety first reported Nov. 4.” – Variety
It is also rumoured that del Toro’s character would be familiar to Trekkies. Joining the new members are most of the old guard, including Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto. Abrams is directing, with Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof penning the script.
The tentative release date is May 17, 2013.
