Robin is ‘troubled’ in Batman: Arkham City

Rocksteady gives ‘final word’ on Tim Drake’s appearance in the much-anticipated game.

Robin’s appearance in Batman: Arkham City is ‘inspired by cage fighters’, developer Rocksteady has revealed. In the game, which is the sequel to 2009’s acclaimed Batman: Arkham Asylum, Robin is a playable character with his own unique fighting style, and the characterisation is a departure from the more mild-mannered Tim Drake in the comics.

“We wanted to create a Robin that players would identify as a contemporary character and move away from the traditional ‘Boy Wonder’ image that most people know,” senior concept artist Kan Muftic told the Batman: Arkham City community site. “Our vision of Robin is the one of a troubled young individual that is calm and introverted at times but very dangerous and aggressive if provoked.”

The shaved head, as seen in this concept art, was inspired by the look of cage fighters, as the developer could imagine the former Boy Wonder doing this in his spare time. The aim is to make the character a fan favourite.

What do you think? Looking forward to Arkham City, and the chance to play as Robin? The game is released on 360 and PS3 on October 21st.
