Outcasts stranded on Sunday night slot

Sci-fi drama is bumped after low ratings

Exciting new sci-fi drama Outcasts has been moved from Monday nights at 9pm to Sundays at 10.25pm from 27th February. The fourth episode aired last night to a disappointing 2.6 million viewers. It was up against Channel 4’s Big Fat Gypsy Weddings (6.5 million) and ITV1’s The Brit Awards 2011 (4.8 million).

The programme about people living on planet Carpathia after the Earth has become no longer inhabitable opened to over 4 million last Monday, but has declined since. BBC drama controller Ben Stephenson said “BBC1 and BBC drama support creative risk. Sometimes this means that talented people make shows that don’t engage enough of the audience. I have so much respect for any writer who has the nerve and confidence to create their own original world and serve it up to an audience.”
