Logan trailer takes Wolverine on the road

Wolverine and Professor X are reunited in the first Logan trailer

Having caught yesterday’s brief teaser trailer, we now have our first proper glimpse of Logan – Hugh Jackman’s third and final solo outing as the self-healing mutant – and it seems like a lot of the rumours we’ve heard are true.

Logan is in a dark place, with most of the X-Men presumably dead (we’re assuming that they’re the gravestones he’s standing looking at mournfully), aside from Professor X (Patrick Stewart) who’s hold up in what looks like a ramshackle Cerebro replacement, and he’s being pursued by the robotic Reavers, led by the distinctly evil-looking Donald Pierce (Boyd Holbrook).

On top of that, we have young Laura (Sienna Novikov), who we hear Charles telling Logan is “like you… very much like you”. Could she be X-23? We reckon so.

Plus, there’s the obvious Old Man Logan similarities. At one point Xavier asks Logan, “What did you do?” accompanied by a shot of him running devastated through the woods (although in fairness he does that a lot), much like he does in the comics after a certain vital moment that we’re not going to spoil. Coupled with the on-the-nose lyrics of Johnny Cash’s ‘Hurt (“I hurt myself to see if I can still feel”), and this could well be a contender for the most bleak Marvel movie yet.

Jackman is starring alongside Patrick Stewart, Boyd Holbrook, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Richard E Grant, Stephen Merchant, Eriq La Salle, Sienna Novikov and Doris Morgado, with James Mangold directing from a script penned by David James Kelly and Michael Green, and Simon Kinberg, Hutch Parker and Lauren Shulur Donner attached as producers.
