Lars Von Trier is writing a horror movie to be directed by Kristian Levring, called Detroit.
The controversial Danish filmmaker, who recently completed his depression trilogy of Antichrist, Melancholia and Nymphomaniac, is writing a horror script for Levring, who is premiering his film The Salvation at Cannes.
“I’ve always thought that Lars would be able to do a fantastic horror movie. And I’ve told him so many times throughout the years, and in the end he said: ‘I want you to stop talking about it, so I’ll write it for you instead. It takes place in Detroit, and then there is the wordplay between Detroit and ‘destroyed.’ It’s about a man fighting his inner demons. That doesn’t tell that much, but that’s because we haven’t gotten any further so far.”
He says that Von Trier began working on the script about a month ago. Fans of Antichrist will tell you that Von Trier has already made a fantastic horror movie, and he explored the genre years ago with his brilliant TV series The Kingdom, but it will be interesting to see what he comes up with for someone else to direct.
