John Simm: “Of course I’d return to Doctor Who!”

John Simm wants to reprise his role as The Master in Doctor Who, and Steven Moffat confirms series seven will return this Autumn

When John Simm was asked recently on Twitter whether he would return as the Master in Doctor Who, he said: “Of course! Mr Moffat is a brilliant writer.”

Simm also had a message for those fans who weren’t so keen on his portrayal: “For those grown ups ANGRY about how the Master was written/portrayed… please don’t tell me, tell someone who gives a ****. Therapist!? …or (to avoid confusion) perhaps a psychiatrist? That’s cleared that up!”

On another Who related note, showrunner Steven Moffat has hinted that we may be getting a longer series run when the show returns. Speaking with the Radio Times, Moffat said: “I’ll just say it’s at least 14 episodes. Obviously we start in the Autumn so the Christmas special is part of the run.”

He was also prodded about Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary special plans, confirming they are indeed underway for 2013. ”I think honestly, and I’m just saying this as a Doctor Who fan myself and knowing a certain amount of what’s coming, and making some of the other stuff up, there will never be a better time to be a Doctor Who fan!” he said. “I absolutely promise that!”
