Freya Allen Dived Back Into The Witcher Books For Ciri’s Season Four Arc

The Ciri star took extra time to re-read The Witcher novels over and over to get to grips with her characters arc in the new series.

The anticipation for Season Four of The Witcher is expanding even more with just 24 hours (or so) until fans get to see the brand new season that marks something of a new beginning for the series, not least with the first appearances of Liam Hemsworth in the role of Geralt of Rivia, replacing the departed Henry Cavill.

For fans who know their Witcher and the books and the like, it also marks a big moment for Ciri (played by Freya Allen), with the new season adapting the events of Baptism of Fire, the third novel from creator Andrzej Sapkowski. And Allen, fresh off her excellent turn in last summer’s Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, came into the new season even more prepared than normal.

Talking to GamesRadar, Allen talked about re-reading the books to prepare for the new series and Ciri’s ever-changing storylines, saying:

“Going into Seasons 4 and 5, I felt like I was carrying out some of my favourite Ciri storylines… So it meant a lot to me. I also think some of these storylines are things that fans have been waiting for for a while, and they’re kind of iconic moments in the book for Ciri … More than ever, I relied on the source material a lot. I pulled a lot from that. It was really important for me to honour that, and I really had fans in my mind a lot of the time … I really wanted to make sure I knew every nook and cranny of Ciri’s story in the books.”

Indeed, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich noted in the same article that Allan would approach her with a book in hand to discuss certain scenes and how to play them.

Allen, Anya Chalotra, and Joey Batey return with Laurence Fishburne, Sharlto Copley, James Purefoy, Danny Woodburn, Linden Porco, Eve Ridley, and Clive Russell joining the cast for the new season.

The Witcher: Season 4 will debut on Netflix on October 30th.
