Daredevil Season 3 confirmed by Netflix

Matt Murdock will be back in Daredevil Season 3

We all assumed it would happen, but it’s been confirmed: Netflix is bringing back Daredevil for a third season.

The news was announced at Comic-Con, along with a strong Marvel Netflix presentation that also featured trailers for Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders.

What isn’t clear is when exactly Matt Murdock will be returning to bring his special brand of justice to the streets of Hell’s Kitchen. Initial buzz seemed to suggest early next year, but that was followed by rumours that The Defenders would have to go first.

Going by that teaser trailer, it looks as though The Defenders could be continuing the story that Daredevil Season 2 kicked off, with Stick attempting to gather his warriors to face The Hand, as wave after wave of ninjas piled into Hell’s Kitchen. With that in mind, it makes sense that the next Daredevil solo outing would have to wait until this larger threat is resolved by a team that’s slighly more equipped to handle that kind of massive threat.

There’s also the fact the Marvel Netflix slate is pretty packed. We’ve got Luke Cage in September, then Iron Fist after that, then (presumably) The Defenders, although we don’t know when Jessica Jones Season Two is going to happen. Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg hinted that it would probably be after The Defenders, and the same thing will be probably be true for The Punisher, which has Hannibal veteran Steve Lightfoot on board as showrunner.

Still, it’s good to have confirmation on Daredevil‘s return, and as for those timings, we’ll just have to wait and see…

Daredevil Seasons 1-2 are now streaming on Netflix. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
