Crysis 2 makes post-apocalyptic New York cool again

Sci-fi game should inject new life into the setting.

Being the games nut I am, the weekend saw me browsing the internet airwaves for cool titles coming out at the end of the year. While it’s usually difficult to tell just looking at screenshots, videos offer a much better idea of what to expect from a game. This trailer of Crysis 2, with a story scripted by sci-fi author Richard Morgan, is the most striking I’ve seen in recent times:

What do you think? Crysis 2 comes from German developer Crytek, the sequel to the 2007 FPS title Crysis and its spin-off, Crysis: Warhead. The only difference now is the format – this will be released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, whereas the original was just released on PC.

You might have noticed that the setting uses the old post-apocalyptic New York premise. While such a fictional context is overly familiar to fans of literature and movies, for gamers it’s never been realised with the right ambition or calibre of technology – I’m hoping Crysis 2 will change that.
