Comic book sales slump again

Green Lantern tops slow February, but it’s the lowest selling number one in years.

Following the success of last month’s death issue of Fantastic Four, comic book sales took another hit in January with the absence of any major event comics. According to ICV2, the top-selling comic book was Green Lantern #62 with 71,517 copies, a decent number, but over 20,000 down on the Green Lantern issue released the same time last year (bolstered by the ‘Blackest Night’ event).

The top title for February 2010, Blackest Night #7, sold upwards of 130,000 copies – so at the top end, it’s a steep drop-off for the industry. This is unfortunate, but hopefully some of the bigger books on the market right now that have been hampered by delays (Batman, Inc and Batman: The Dark Knight) can bring some momentum back to the market in the months to come. Otherwise, I’ll have to start drawing my own crude superhero adventures.
