Cloak And Dagger TV series finds its leads

The Kickin’ It and Run All Night actors will lead Marvel’s Cloak And Dagger series

Well, this came out of nowhere. While we knew that a Cloak And Dagger TV series developed at US network Freeform was in development, we didn’t realise quite how far ahead it was.

This has been hammered home by the revelation that its two leads have been cast, with Olivia Holt being chosen to play Tandy Bowen, aka Dagger, while Aubrey Joseph is Tyron Johnson, aka Cloak, in the latest Marvel TV adaptation.

Olivia Holt will play Dagger in Marvel’s new series.

An entirely different entity from Disney and Fox’s interpretations of the Marvel universe, this follows the two young runaways as they are kidnapped and experimented on, ultimately giving them both powers: Cloak possesses the ability of teleport – both himself, and others through the ‘darkforce dimension’ that inhabits his cloak – and Dagger posseses knives made of light, which can be used both offensively and to heal others. In other words, they’re both pretty formidable.

While we’ll confess to not being familiar with a lot of their material (Holt’s biggest credits are Disney Channel shows I Didn’t Do It and Kickin’ It, while Joseph had small roles in acclaimed miniseries The Night Of and Liam Neeson action vehicle Run All Night), it looks like we’ll be seeing a lot more of them in the near future. Cloak and Dagger’s arrival on the screen has been a long time coming, and while it hasn’t taken the form we were expecting, it’s good to see that it’s one step closer.

Aubrey Joseph has been chosen to play Cloak.

The stars have aligned with “Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger” for Freeform!

Former Disney Channel star and Hollywood Records recording artist Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph (“The Night Of,” “Run All Night”) will star as Tandy Bowen, a.k.a. Dagger, and Tyrone Johnson, a.k.a. Cloak!

“The characters of Tandy and Tyrone have always stood out to me ever since I first met them in the pages of Marvel comics when I was a boy. When Olivia and Aubrey read for the roles, these characters leapt off the page.  We’re so excited to see what these talented young actors bring to the Marvel Universe,” said showrunner and Executive Producer Joe Pokaski.

“Marvel is delighted to have found our Cloak and Dagger. Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph encompass the true essence of the characters and we are excited for the audience to see them in these roles,” said Jeph Loeb, Head of Marvel Television and Executive Producer.

“Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger” is a coming-of-age series based on the beloved Marvel characters.  Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson come from starkly different backgrounds, each growing up with a secret they never dared share with another soul.

Once a privileged little girl, Tandy Bowen watched as her family was destroyed by a disastrous storm that uprooted her life. Now in her late teens, an unexpected encounter with a boy named Tyrone sparks a life changing event.

Young Tyrone Johnson wanted nothing more than to prove he was fearless. But when everything he held close was taken away, life taught Tyrone to be afraid. Now older and more sheltered, Tyrone closes himself off. But when he meets a girl named Tandy his life changes forever.

“Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger” is produced by Marvel Television and ABC Signature Studios.

Cloak And Dagger will air on Freeform in the US at a later date. For all the latest TV news, pick up the new issue of SciFiNow.
