ABC plans Beauty And The Beast pilot

On the heels of the CW planned Beauty And The Beast series, ABC gives the go-ahead for their own retelling

Fairytales have exploded this year with two Snow White films on the way and Grimm and Once Upon A Time on the small screen. Now comes news of the second planned pilot for a Beauty And The Beast series. ABC has given the green light to a one-hour drama, described as “a fantastical reimagining of the classic fairy tale set in a mythical, dangerous world wherein a beautiful and tough Princess discovers an unlikely connection with a mysterious beast.”

This is unsurprising when you remember that ABC’s parent company is Disney, whose 3D re-release of the 1991 animation has scooped over $30 million since its January 13th release. Whilst this retelling will be more faithful to the fairytale’s roots, the CW has ordered a pilot for a remake of the 1980s Ron Perlman/Linda Hamilton Beauty And The Beast series.
