Mufasa: The Lion King and Lanterns star Aaron Pierre has been talking about his role in the upcoming Star Wars film, Star Wars: Starfighter, and just how much the franchise means to him.
Chatting to Esquire, the actor spoke of his love of Star Wars, the huge significance of joining the legendary series and how he wants to honour it with Shawn Levy, who is directing the film.
“Dude, I’m ecstatic,” he said, “I’m over the moon. There are really no words to articulate how thrilled, energised, grateful I am… “I’m just so thankful to be part of these beloved franchises and these beloved stories. As always, I’m going to do my best to give everything I have every single day I’m on set.”
The actor praised Shawn Levy’s direction and the collective effort behind the project. He said,
The star also spoke highly of Deadpool & Wolverine helmer Levy and his own passion to bring the new Star Wars story to life, saying: “All I can say is Shawn [Levy] is so very wonderful. He’s so passionate. He cares so very much, as does everyone who is involved in this.”
Episode I – The Phantom Menace seemed to be the catalyst for Pierre saying yes to Star Wars, as he, like many when they were younger, had a big impact on him as a child, calling it “amazing.” He said, “It was so larger-than-life, cinematic, engaging, thrilling, and very emotional, especially as a five-year-old.”
Star Wars: Starfighter is set for release on May 28th, 2027.
