First look: Jonah Hex

by James Rundle

The first trailer for Wild Wild West – we mean, Jonah Hex – is released.

The trailer for Jonah Hex, a loose adaptation of the comic book character, has been released through Yahoo! Movies. The film stars Josh Brolin in the titular role, albeit slightly changed from the original now that Hex has the ability to speak to the dead, and the film as a whole seems to have a far more supernatural bent to it.

Megan Fox and John Malkovich also star in the film, which is directed by Jimmy Hayward and scheduled for a 18 June 2010 release.

I haven’t read the comics, but the trailer looks terrible. This will bomb.

Hmmmn, a Jonah Hex movie, eh??? I think this project only got greenlit because Megan Fox agreed to be in it…

If you’re interested, AVOID any of the new Jonah Hex comics. Instead, if you have the time and you’re near a comic shop or a Waterstones, browse the graphic novels for the SHOWCASE PRESENTS: JONAH HEX volume.

This magnificent reprint unfortunately is in B/W but reprints the first two or three years of Jonah’s colourful and action packed adventures. If you like the Punisher or even if you thought Judge Dredd was cold and brutal, then Jonah Hex is not for you!

This book is one of my favourite B/W reprints ever as the stories and art (mostly Fleischer and DeZuniga) are of the highest quality, oozing credibility and atmosphere. The movie, however, will probably struggle to match the comics…check it out, you won’t be disappointed!
