Man Of Steel’s David S Goyer on Da Vinci’s Demons

Da Vinci is “part Indiana Jones, part Sherlock Holmes and part Tony Stark”

Man Of Steel writer David S Goyer is now giving Leonardo Da Vinci the Batman Begins treatment in Da Vinci’s Demons. The new TV series, due to premier on FOX this spring, stars Brit actors Tom Riley (Monroe), Laura Haddock (The Inbetweeners) and Lara Pulver (Sherlock).

Da Vinci’s Demons unveils the secret history of Leonardo Da Vinci, a man gifted with superhuman genius who is bent on exposing the lies of religion. He finds himself in the midst of a storm that has been brewing for centuries – a conflict between truth and lies, religion and reason, past and future.

His aspirations are used against him by the opposing forces of the time – luring him into a game of seduction where those who despise his intellect need him most.

“We’re essentially positioning Da Vinci as one-third Indiana Jones, one third Sherlock Holmes and one third Tony Stark,” says Goyer. “A lot of people think of Da Vinci as the old guy who did the self-portrait, the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper, but for most of his life he supported himself as a war engineer.

“We think of him as an effete old guy, but he was known to be a really good swordsman and a good horse rider. He had a reputation for having a big mouth, so he was thrown in prison a number of times. He insulted the Pope, he was famous for taking art commissions and not finishing them, he smoked opium, he drank, and I didn’t necessarily know all of that.”

Da Vinci’s Demons comes exclusively to FOX for its UK premiere this spring.
