Ten of the most interesting sci-fi futures

Some of the best (and wholly depressing) futures depicted by the genre.

mini-caprica_city.jpg8. Caprica
Aired: 2010-Present
Creator: Ronald D Moore, David Eick, Remi Aubuchon
Starring:
Esai Morales, Eric Stoltz, Paula Malcolmson

Sex, drugs and rock and roll cease to be so much of a burden on the NHS when it all goes virtual, thanks to a certain Mr Daniel Graystone. Caprica’s actually not a bad place on the surface – homosexuality is completely tolerated, and they have excellent tailors. Shame about all the racial discrimination and the impending nuclear holocaust, though.

2001-a-space-odyssey7. 2001: A Space Odyssey
Released: 1968
Director:
Stanley Kubrick
Starring:
Gary Lockwood, Keir Dullea, William Sylvester

Richard Branson will, in the future, be flying commercial flights to the Moon (which he’ll buy) staffed by waitresses in cocktail skirts. Meanwhile, the impending effects of the ASBO will soon be felt when our kids, sick of Britain, decide to go and cause havoc in the form of giant space children. Fear them.
