Bamber “had issues” with Apollo

Jamie Bamber has said that he hasn’t been happy with the way his character on Battlestar Galactica, Lee Adama, progressed at points in the show.

“Yeah, I’ve had my issues at time. My issues tended to be that it was fairly repetitive and that in the writing [Adama] tended to be a bit sanctimonious, and I was always trying to make him a bit more surprising and maverick,” said the British-born actor, when asked by SciFiNow whether he’d had any disagreements with his character progression on the Peabody-winning series. “I think somewhere between my instinct and the writers’ instincts, we forged a worthwhile path. On the whole, I’m awestruck with what they’ve done on the show, but I’ll be honest, I think that the writers had a bit more of a struggle [with Adama], they weren’t as in love with him in a way that maybe they could have been.”

The actor has been a part of the show from the miniseries, like most of the cast, and is typically close-mouthed about the final episodes and the identity of the final Cylon. “Uh… how do you know I’m not? No, no, I can’t comment about that,” he replies when asked if he was relieved to not be a Cylon when the other actors were informed. However, he is enthusiastic about the end of the show when asked for his opinion. “[It’s] a fantastic ending. Our show’s always been a saga, a real saga about a journey. And every journey needs the final chapter, and the final destination, conclusion, and it does deliver on every count.”
