Speaking at Comicpalooza about his role in Bryan Singer’s forthcoming X-Men: Days Of Future Past, original Charles Xavier star Patrick Stewart hinted that the film’s time travelling plot might undo some of the more controversial developments in Brett Ratner’s almost universally disliked X-Men: The Last Stand – notably the death of his own character!

“It’s been 6 or 7 years since X-Men 3, where you will recall that Charles Xavier was vaporised by whats-her-name, Jean Grey. And you’re asking yourselves, ‘If you were vaporised, how can you be in the next X-Men movie?’ Anybody got any ideas how that came about?”

“Time travel,” posited an audience member.

“Yeah, that’s exactly it. I guess. There will be an explanation, but it was a little puzzling for me because I thought my X-Men days were over. So, it’s something to look forward to.”

That does raise the question though, what else has changed? Will Jean Grey star Famke Jansson be reprising her role for a surprise cameo, and does that mean The Wolverine, which clearly takes place AFTER X-Men: The Last Stand isn’t canon at all?

Pick up X-Men: The Ultimate Collection, containing all five films so far, on Blu-ray for £19.75 and DVD for £15.29 from Amazon.co.uk. X-Men: Days Of Future Past is due in cinemas 18 July 2014.
