Wolverine 3 recruits Withnail And I star

You will like this piece of casting for Wolverine 3. We certainly did

Generally, our main quibble when it comes to movie casting is usually as follows: not enough Richard E Grant. He’s excellent in basically everything he does, so why not put him in everything? He can’t be everywhere at once, in fairness, but still, the point stands. Which is why this piece of news to come out ahead of filming commencing for the third Wolverine movie is so brilliant, as the Withnail And I star (and more recently of ITV’s Jekyll & Hyde) has been added to the cast of the third and final instalment in the Wolverine film saga.

Although the name of his character hasn’t been confirmed, rumour has it that he will be playing a scientist type, pulling the strings from behind the scenes. Perhaps he could be Abraham Cornelius (the man responsible for perfecting the process of bonding adamantium to bone), since the post-Days Of Future Past rebooted world order presumably allows for his presence now (rather than just William Stryker being responsible). Or maybe he’s someone else entirely – Mr Sinister perhaps, unless they’re saving him for a future X-Men movie. Either way, having him on board is definitely a coup, and we’re looking forward to seeing who he’s playing.

He joins a cast that already includes the returning Hugh Jackman, making his final appearance as Logan/Wolverine; Patrick Stewart as Professor Charles Xavier, and Narcos star Boyd Holbrook in an as yet unspecified role. James Mangold will return to direct having helmed The Wolverine, with Michael Green and David James Kelly writing the script, and Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner producing.

The as-yet untitled Wolverine sequel will be released in cinemas on 2 March 2017. To learn more about the character, buy the 100 All-Time Greatest Comics: Revised Edition bookazine. For more news about the latest movies, pick up the new issue of SciFiNow.
