Wolverine 3 casts Narcos star in villain role

The star of the Netflix hit will play Logan’s adversary in Wolverine 3

After the pretty decent The Wolverine, we’ve become that bit more excited than we were previously about the prospect of Hugh Jackman’s return to the character, despite the fact that it will sadly be his final appearance in the role. We’re still holding out for an adaptation of Mark Millar’s Old Man Logan storyline, and while we’re looking for clues as to what the story could be, this latest piece of casting news doesn’t shed any light on what direction the film will go in.

Fans of Netflix drama Narcos will no doubt be happy to hear that Boyd Holbrook – aka DEA agent Steve Murphy in the show – has joined in an as-yet unrevealed role in a villainous capacity, with Deadline describing the character as “a relentless, calculating and intense head of security for a global enterprise who is set against Jackman’s clawed Wolverine/Logan hero”.

The fact that the character hasn’t been named is an interesting one – usually this only happens if the studio are hiding a secret, leading us to suspect that Holbrook is playing someone we don’t know. Could it be Daken, aka Wolverine’s estranged son? He would certainly fit the character description, and would somehow be fitting as part of an endgame for Logan. Then again, it could just as easily not be, although if we turn out to be correct, remember to credit us for the theory. The Wolverine‘s James Mangold is returning to direct, working on a script from Michael Green and David James Kelly. Aside from Holbrook, Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart are the only confirmed cast members at present, reprising their roles as Logan/Wolverine and Professor Charles Xavier respectively.

Wolverine 3 will be released in cinemas on 2 March 2017. To learn more about the character, buy the 100 All-Time Greatest Comics: Revised Edition bookazine. For more news about the latest movies, pick up the new issue of SciFiNow.
