The American remake of Jorge Michael Grau’s We Are What We Are is getting a sequel and a prequel.
The film, about a cannibal family left without a source of food when their hunter/gatherer father dies, premiered at Sundance to an excellent reaction and Bloody Disgusting reports that Memento Pictures has put two further films into production. The remake was written and directed by Jim Mickle, the writer/director of Stakeland. Nick Damici, Mickle’s co-writer on those two films, will write the prequel What We Were, which will be directed by Finnish filmmaker AJ Annila. Jorge Michael Grau himself will write and direct the sequel.
We Are What We Are stars Julia Garner (Electrick Children), Kelly McGillis (The Innkeepers), Bill Sage (Mysterious Skin) and Michael Parks (Red State) and is currently playing at the Cannes Film Festival. No UK release date has been announced.
