Underworld reboot is still moving ahead, writer confirmed

Vampires to fight lycans again as writer is chosen to breathe new life into the Underworld franchise

The previously reported Underworld reboot/sequel is definitely happening, as a writer has been chosen to continue Len Wiseman’s supernatural action franchise.

THR reports that Cory Goodman will write the script, which is expected to focus on Eve, the daughter of Selene and Michael, who was introduced in 2012’s Underworld: Awakening. That film was immensely forgettable but was the franchise’s highest earner at the box-office.

The decision to keep the franchise moving without Selene isn’t hugely surprising, as the third film, Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans, did just that. That film offered a performance from Michael Sheen far better than the movie deserved, so it remains to see what this reboot has to give.

Goodman previously wrote Scott Stewart’s rubbish Priest, and the upcoming Vin Diesel action-er The Last Witch Hunter. The Underworld franchise has never quite lived up to the basic appeal of its premise (how hard is it to get vampires fighting werewolves right?) so maybe a clean break is what’s needed.

You can buy the Underworld Quadrilogy on Blu-ray for £22.85 at Amazon.co.uk and you can keep up to date with the latest horror news in the new issue of SciFiNow.
