Twilight director takes on Red Riding Hood

by Shaun Davis

Catherine Hardwicke to adapt the Grimm tale.

Film TwilightCatherine Hardwicke has signed on to direct a new iteration of the Red Riding Hood tale, according to Variety. Titled The Girl With The Red Riding Hood, the Twilight helmer will be working with Appian Way to get this project off the ground.

In a slight twist on the Brothers Grimm original, Hardwicke’s version is set to take a much more gothic route. David Johnson (Orphan) is on board to write the screenplay, which reportedly takes a werewolf movie approach wrapped up in a teen love triangle. Hmm, werewolves? Teen romance? Could this be Hardwicke’s unofficial take on New Moon? We shall wait and see.

The Girl With The Red Riding Hood is in the very early stages of pre-production. The production is being set up by Warner Bros. with first option going to Appian Way.
