True Blood renewed for third season

HBO’s steamy vampire series is picked up for another year.

hotbloodTrue Blood, HBO’s runaway vampire-themed romantic drama based on the Southern Vampire Mysteries books by Charlaine Harris, has been renewed for a third season.

HBO executives announced the news at the Television Critics Association press tour, with Quentin Schaffer saying: “Two years ago we were feeling beat up, now we’re feeling upbeat.” The series has been a massive success for the network, and has stunningly managed to increase its audience with almost every episode, as well as sparking mass interest both from the mainstream and niche press arenas. True Blood is now its highest rated programme behind The Sopranos.

The third series will debut around summer next year. Alan Ball serves as the showrunner, while it stars the likes of Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer and Aleksander Skarsgard. True Blood is currently airing its second season at the moment.
