Transformers 5 brings back old fan favourite

Another familiar face is returning for Transformers: The Last Knight

It looks like the Transformers franchise is pulling a bit of an X-Men on us. Having recruited a mostly new cast for fourth outing Transformers: Age Of Extinction, it now seems intents on bringing back the cast that helped make it such a mammoth box-office hit to begin with. First, Josh Duhamel was confirmed to be coming back. Now, it looks like Tyrese Gibson will also make his return in Transformers: The Last Knight.

Having starred alongside Duhamel as fellow army officer Sgt Robert Epps, he was last seen in Dark Of The Moon assisting in the humans’ suicidal-looking assault on the Decepticons. There’s no word on what exactly he’ll be doing here. but we’re sure it’ll involve helping to protect Earth from the robotic alien scum once more.

The news was confirmed in an interview with ET Online, with Gibson saying, “Let’s just say 2017, summertime, it’s going to be a lot of energy out there in the universe: Fast 8, Transformers 5,” referring to his role in the Fast And Furious series.

While we’re not going to pretend to be all that personally invested in the series, it’s nice to see it offering something for fans to be excited about. Gibson and Duhamel make for a great team, and considering that the former is generally successful at livening up whatever scene he’s in, we’re sure he’ll do the same here.

Gibson joins a cast that includes returning franchise stalwarts Mark Wahlberg, Peter Cullen and Josh Duhamel, as well as new additions Anthony Hopkins, Isabela Moner, Jerrod Carmichael, Laura Haddock and Allen Phoenix. Michael Bay will once again take to the director’s chair (apparently for the last time), where he will be working from a script penned by Matt Holloway, Art Marcum and Ken Nolan.

Transformers: The Last Knight will be released in cinemas on 23 June 2017. For more news about the latest movies, pick up the new issue of SciFiNow.
