Titans casts Drew Van Acker as Aqualad

Aqualad joins Batman, Superboy and Deathstroke in Season 2

Titans‘ second season just got even bigger, with Aqualad getting added to the roster.

Drew Van Acker, best known for Training Day (pictured above) and Pretty Little Liars, will be joining the cast for Season 2 as Aqualad, sidekick to Aquaman.

There have been a couple of Aqualads in the DCU, but, judging by the picture Tweeted by Titans’ official account, he’ll be playing the original Aqualad, Garth, who later went on to become superhero Tempest. Garth was a founding member of the Teen Titans, along with Robin, Wonder Girl, Speedy and Kid Flash, so his inclusion in the series makes a lot of sense.

Acker joins a Season 2 cast that is just getting bigger and bigger, with Joshua Orpin  (The Blake Mysteries: Ghost Stories) already announced as Superboy, Game Of Thrones‘ Iain Glen as Bruce Wayne, Esai Morales (Mars) as classic Titans villain Deathstroke, Chella Man and Chelsea Zhang (Andi Mack) as Joseph and Rose Wilson, Deathstroke’s children, and Natalie Gumede (Jekyll & Hyde) as Mercy Graves, Lex Luthor’s bodyguard. Whether that means we’ll also be seeing Luthor remains to be seen.

The show already has two Robins (Brenton Thwaite and Curran Walters), Raven (Teagan Croft), Starfire (Anna Diop), Beast Boy (Ryan Potter), Wonder Girl (Conor Leslie), Hawk (Alan Ritchson) and Dove (Minka Kelly), plus regular Titan Cyborg (Joivan Wade) in sister show Doom Patrol, so it’s frankly amazing that they have room for anyone else in Season 2. Perhaps the remaining two Titans founders – Speedy and Kid Flash – will have to hang on until Season 3, provided the show gets a third season.
