Mads Mikkelsen, star of Casino Royale and more pertinently, Danish historical thriller Valhalla Rising, is in talks to play a villain in Thor 2 (in cinemas 15 November 2013), directed by Game Of Thrones‘ Alan Taylor.
One fan-theory is that Mikkelsen will be playing The Executioner, a vicious half-Frost Giant warrior who is frequently manipulated by The Enchantress, and even Loki.
Between Taylor and Mikkelsen, there’s definitely a more intense vibe to the Thor sequel, so it’ll be interesting to see how this fits with Kenneth Branagh’s pompous, Kirby-esque take on Asgard, and whether having Mikkelsen be the villain means Loki is to begin his slide to redemption, or whether Loki will be the puppet master, pitting The Executioner and against Chris Hemsworth’s Thor?
Already a fan favourite, do you think Tom Hiddleston’s Loki will be more of an anti-hero/reluctant ally than villain in Thor 2 and Avengers Assemble 2?
