I agree with Russ - I liked Chronicles too, but I'm still nostalgic about PB - and I'm full of hope. I am a big fan of original, self-preserving, naturalistic Riddick and for this news I must say - as long as it will be Twohy/Diesel domain (they like and know the Riddick character) and as long as Vin Diesel plays Riddick... then I think I am looking forward to this very eagerly! :-D
Yeah, boys, go and get it indie way! Good ol' Pitch Black is the best!
(Although I am afraid of how far the Chronicles story and all that games stuff had gone meantime. Will it be possible to present something truly and darkly "riddickish"? I hope so!)

Great that Twohy is sticking to his R-Rated guns on this and returning to the franchise's indie roots. I didn't hate Chronicles, but Pitch Black was clearly a far better movie: and, if we think back, it was an original concept, not based on a book, game or comic (is Riddick the Snake Plissken of the noughties - now there's one for the SFN smack down).

A less-glossy 28th century has proven to work for Riddick in the past - and with a reduced budget, the Twohy/Diesel team will have to err on the side of "small is beautiful;" the huge themes and galactic backdrop of Chronicles were plainly the wrong environment for our Richard after all.

Twohy's definitely saying the right, fan-pleasing things (between the lines: "It's going to be darker") and if he sticks to the direction above, there's great potential.

2010 is shaping up to be a good year for Sci-Fi. Something to console us in post-World Cup depression, then!

Cheers
